The Type 17 point has a cutting notch that drills its own pilot as it goes, which reduces splitting near board ends. The coarse thread runs the full length. 18-8 stainless resists corrosion outdoors and will not stain cedar or redwood the way plated steel can. Sold in production-volume bulk packs.
